To match increasing competition from Barnes & Noble's Nook and e-readers from the likes of Sony, Toshiba, and Hewlett-Packard, Amazon has expanded Kindle sales in 2010 to include mass retailers. Most recently, Best Buy has begun selling the Kindle. Earlier this year Target Stores and Staple's began selling the Amazon ebook reader.

Buying a Kindle through a local retail outlet offers the obvious benefit of being able to touch and feel the device before plunking down cash. Most retailers sell other devices like the Nook so you can also size up the competition in person.

But don't expect any price breaks. A new Kindle will cost the same no matter where you buy it from.
